Gunnar Sward

Gunnar Walter-Russel Greuel will be a 2024 graduate of Winter High School and is the son of Matt and Heather Greuel.

His favorite activity to do with his family is taking batting practice and then throwing the Aerobie around. His favorite childhood memory is when he won the Little League championship game and went undefeated.

Gunnar Greuel has been involved in Baseball (4) and has received three 1st Team All-Conference Awards. He has played basketball (4), and received two 1st Team All-Conference Awards, and the Conference Player of the Year Award his senior year. He also led the state in total rebounds as well as rebounds per game. Gunnar was 2nd in the nation in rebounds per game and led the nation in total boards. Gunnar played football (1) and Cross Country (1). He has also been in the Student Council for 2 years, the Honor Society since 7th grade, and in 4-H for 8 years.

The activity he enjoys most is baseball because it is a fun team sport in which he can play multiple positions and do so many different things in one game.

His favorite high school memory is when the basketball team won regional finals and they, as a group, were able to hoist the plaque above their heads.

The class Gunnar enjoyed the most was Anatomy and Physiology because after we got our work done we would designate days as pizza or ice cream day, and it was a fun class.

His biggest pet peeve is when homework is assigned right before the bell and then having to do it during the weekend.

Outside of school, Gunnar enjoys hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, riding 4-wheelers, and taking batting practice.

If he had one wish it would be to have a newer and nicer truck that doesn’t go through a lot of oil.

The three words that best describe him are athletic, respectful, and nice.

After High School, Gunnar plans to get his CDL and pursue a career as an electrician.

In ten years, he sees himself excelling in his career and possibly starting a family.

Three things on his bucket list are traveling to a new state, watching the Brewers play at 5 different MLB stadiums, and traveling to a different state on a motorcycle.

The person he admires most is his dad because he can do a bunch of different things and manages to do things well and has taught Gunnar to do things that he isn’t the greatest at.

The teacher/coach that had the biggest impact on Gunnar is Josh “Hootie” Hautamaki because of the way that he not only goes about teaching and coaching on the field, but the way that he carries himself in general. He is always upbeat and willing to lift you up if you are down or if you are having a bad day.

The thing Gunnar will miss the most about Winter High School is the sports, because he won’t be playing anymore.

If there was one way he could be remembered at WHS, it would be as the Rebound King.

The advice Gunnar would give underclassmen is to work for what you want because that’s the only way you are going to be able to get it.
