Rowan

Rowan Wergeland will be a 2024 graduate of Winter High School and is the son of Jody and Jeni Wergeland.

His favorite activity with family is playing board games.

His favorite childhood memory is mispronouncing words he learned from “Calvin & Hobbes.” Rowan has been involved in Band (4), Cross Country (4), Drama Club (1), Forensics (3), Game Club (1), Golf (4), Honor Society (4), Quiz Bowl (4), Yearbook (2), and has varsity- lettered in golf, cross country and band at WHS. He was also a member of the #1 Quiz Bowl Team (TWICE!).

The activity he enjoyed the most was band because he likes making music and hearing his improvement.

Rowan’s favorite high school memory is when he discovered “The Hole” in the band room.

The class Rowan enjoyed the most was AP Literature & Composition because the class read interesting books and learned about methods of analyzing literature.

His biggest pet peeve is when people see that he has earbuds, yet assume he can hear them.

Outside of school, Rowan enjoys jogging, creative writing, reading novels, and listening to music.

If he had one wish it would be to bring the TV show Firefly back for five more seasons.

The three words that best describe him are nerdy, curious, and helpful.

After High School, Rowan plans to major in electrical engineering and computer science at MIT.

In 10 years, he sees himself developing new technology to tackle the world’s problems.

Three things on his bucket list are becoming an author, earning international recognition, and being the second Winter High School Alumnus to make it to space.

The person he admires most is his grandfather because he inspired Rowan to become an engineer.

The teacher who had the biggest impact on Rowan was the high school science teacher because she helped him gain practical scientific experience while also helping him through college admissions.

The thing Rowan will miss the most about Winter High School is the close-knit, supportive, friendly community.

The advice Rowan would give underclassmen is to work hard, never cheat (it will only hurt you in the long run), and always leave room for your mental health.
