Lena Janssen
Class of 2026
Lena Janssen, daughter of Erik and Lieve Janssen, has been selected as the Winter High School Student of the Month for September 2025! Lena, who is being hosted by Tonya and Jason Richards,is a foreign exchange student in her third year of high school. She comes to us from Wilrijk, Belgium. Welcometo our community and school!
Lena is already excelling at her academics and has fit in nicely into our small school. Lena enjoys art and dance. Her classmates say she is very talented and that her watercolor pictures are so good they look like a real photograph!
Lena has been chosen as our Student of the Month because of the hard “WORK” she has already put into her studies. Coming from another country is always a big adjustment, but Lena has quickly made friends and is excelling in academics. Mr. James Kolodzinski, the High School Language Arts teacher, “As an exchange student, Lena sometimes has difficulties with the English language, especially with slang or archaic English. Even so, she puts forth an incredible effort every day, and this is reflected in an amazing improvement in her reading and comprehension skills.
She works well with the other students, and fully participates in class activities, even those times when she struggles to fully understand what she is reading. She is a pleasure to have in class, and I expect wonderful things from her in the future.” Mr. Delabar, the District’s Physical Education teacher and athletic director, says, “Lena is enthusiastic about bringing one of her hobbies - dancing - to Winter in the form of cheerleading. She is one of a couple who are spearheading a movement to get a cheer team.” Mr.Albertson, the Winter High School Math teacher says, “I enjoy having Lena in my class because she uses the same notations and units [European/Metric] that I use when it comes to numbers and measurements!
