A Message from Dr. Ray:

This past Friday, we represented the Winter School District with both a Middle School and High School team at the state Envirothon. The event included aquatic invertebrates, forestry, soils, and wildlife, followed by a presentation on a current environmental issue (non-point source pollution). We have never participated before, and we came from the furthest north.

Our Middle School team (Abby, Maci, Kaylee, Savannah, and Liesel) competed at the High School level and completed the same activities. [Wisconsin allows for MS teams, which cannot advance, but gain valuable experience leading into HS]. Our team placed THIRD in the soils competition (Whoop!!!) and were either 4th or 5th overall!!!!!

Our High School team (Kaydee, Arrin, Ryan, and Annalee) were up against 24 other HS teams, including a school that has won the national competition the last 2 years in a row. I know they gained very valuable experience. The final results will be sent in the next day or two, but it doesn't matter to me how they ultimately placed.

All of these students are great, top-notch young people who did such a great job representing our school in an event we knew nothing about going in. They were a joy to be around, and I am beyond proud of them!

We give a shout-out to Matt, who signed up to drive a bus, but was an advisor, chaperone, and a huge help with the MS presentation. We thank SCOPE, Pat's Landing Resort, FutureWood, several staff members, and 2 anonymous donors for the funding to make this event possible.

We are so lucky to have these students as our own, and I cannot wait to see how we fare next year!
