From Mrs. Strop & the 5th Grade:

Geodes-Science Rocks!
By Mrs. Strop
A geode is a sphere-shaped, dull-looking rock with a rough outside that contains a mystery on the inside! The inner cavity is lined with crystals such as quartz, calcite, or amethyst. They form over thousands of years when minerals and moisture seep into cavities within volcanic or sedimentary rocks, creating the crystals. Fifth graders had a great time studying geodes! One of the fascinating things is that comparing geodes by weight, color, texture, and size doesn't guarantee what they will look like when cracked open! A fun, exciting, and learning experience was had by all who participated! Science Rocks!

The Winter Middle School had its first meet of the season last night in Cornell. They did a great job and competed hard. Only a couple of students have competed at this level, and the rest are new to the competition. Please congratulate the students in their competition last night. They are all super proud, and so are we! CONGRATULATIONS, WARRIORS!
